TimeTravel: Free Boutique Reverse Delay Plugin by Born Second

TimeTravel: Free Boutique Reverse Delay Plugin by Born Second

Independent developer Born Second has released TimeTravel, a creative free reverse delay plugin modeled after the distinctive architecture of boutique pedal hardware. The effect captures incoming audio, flips it into reverse, and routes it through a gritty 10-bit digital converter with variable clock speeds. You can download the software directly from the Born Second website without registering an account.

Boutique Lo-Fi Character

TimeTravel is based on measured models of the Old Blood Noise Endeavors BL-44 Reverse pedal. Rather than aiming for pristine digital cleanliness, it captures the eccentricities of vintage digital signal processing. The plugin pairs an un-anti-aliased 10-bit converter with a soft-clipping input stage, allowing harmonic fizz, subtle background hiss, and clock jitter to color the signal path.

Key features include:

  • Clock Control: Sweeps the converter sample rate from 3.2 kHz to 18.1 kHz, altering delay times between 0.4 and 2.4 seconds while rolling off top-end frequencies.
  • Smooth Varispeed: Shifts the reversed buffer playback from -12 to +12 semitones across 25 musical detents without unwanted clicking artifacts.
  • Tape-Style Glides: Clock rate changes settle smoothly over roughly five seconds, producing authentic pitch smears when automated mid-phrase.
  • Equal-Power Mix: Blends seamlessly from a totally dry signal to 100% backward repeats.
  • UI Resizing: Supports vertical knob dragging and context-menu window scaling at 1x, 2x, or 3x sizes.

Because the internal memory buffer is fixed, approximately 13% of incoming material repeats twice across window junctions, faithfully reproducing hardware quirks. The plugin excels at turning static synth lines, ambient guitars, and vocal tracks into lush, vintage backward soundscapes.

Grab your copy directly from the developer to add vintage pedal echoes to your DAW sessions.

TimeTravel is available as a completely free download for macOS, Windows, and Linux in 64-bit VST3, AU, and CLAP formats. It requires no license managers, account logins, or authorization keys.
