SynthEdit 1.6 Adds Native macOS Support After Decades on Windows

SynthEdit 1.6 marks the first time Jeff McClintock's modular plugin development environment runs natively on macOS. After decades as a Windows-only tool, the update lets developers build and export 64-bit VST3 plugins for Windows and macOS, plus Audio Unit plugins for macOS. An experimental Linux preview is also included.

What's New in Version 1.6

Developers can now design synths and effects on a Mac and export:

  • VST3 (64-bit) for Windows
  • VST3 (64-bit) for macOS
  • Audio Unit (AU) for macOS

The Linux preview is experimental and targets VST3 export on Linux hosts.

Pricing and Demo

SynthEdit 1.6 is a free update for existing license holders. A new license costs €170 as a one-time payment covering all current versions. A fully featured 60-day demo includes plugin export.

macOS Requirements

The current native macOS build requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS Tahoe or later. The vendor does not list Intel Mac support for this build.
